Mata Ortiz is located in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. Their pottery is one of the finest ceramics in the world. Inspired by the Paquime (Apache Native Americans) the potters of Mata Ortiz create contemporary works of art, often incorporating Mimbres designs shared by the Native American cultures.
These pots are called ollas, or coiled pots. They are hand painted using natures own canvas and materials, and never kiln fired (open pit firing is the technique used). They are created entirely by hand so there are slight variances in size or symmetry.
These pieces are for ornamental use only, they are not intended to be used as water, food, or flower containers. {sku 1487}
